Nothing but the name

It had been great fun during every single episode of choosing a name ever since we were told that specimen is a male.

I have few names in my mind with long accumulated Interests. Usually when you come across people with fancy names or interesting nomenclature, you will spend at least a few seconds to appreciate the name although the person holding it is right opposite to the meaning it denotes or he/she behaves in a fashion that can't be placed adjacent to his name.

I guess, people with straight forward names like Arivaali, Veeran, Azhagan, Kodeeswaran are lesser went unnoticed for thier names and went most unnoticed for their right opposite characters or circumstances.

Before I deviate for the 2nd time, the names that interested me in some way ever since I knew the Importance/Significance in a name and the substance it supposedly carries may not interest someone else. Let me recollect what kind of liking I had when it comes to name... and Let me recollect the people as well when i try the names.

Pankaj - He is Sushil's friend, and later become a friend of mine.
Mukesh - Sushil's brother.
Rajagopalan - I have come across many elderly, responsible persons who resembled Gavuravam Sivaji.
GopalaKrishnan - I had a camp commander during my Graduation Days and a General Manager in Wipro, Pondicherry.
Thayanandh
Rajinikanth
Pramod

I started have a liking for Tamil Names, ever since I came across few Sri Lankan Tamils when I was in Travel Industry. You would love thier names. Its true that they are the true tamils. Look at thier names like Amalan, Deepan, Dileeban, Kaavyan, Azhagiya Paandiyan, Tholkaapiyan, Seeman, Irumburayan, Valavan, Velan, Sundhara Balan, Kamalan, Kabilan, Nirmalan, Kavinan, Maaran, Maalan, Gunalan, Thevan, Iniyan, Kumanan, Amuthan, Sowndharyan, Kamalesan...the list continues to make one thoughtful. If you can understand the feeling of tamil refugees across the world, you will be more thoughtful. After all, this is what all we all can do.

Back to the post. Honestly, deep in mind, and long ago i.e. even before scanning, I had chosen Sanjay in my Mind. When the days pass by, we found that name search is more interesting than watching thaga thaga thaga thanga vettai.

My naming convention and ideas slipped strangely, into SAP things. Somehow, I was driven to the naming convention that sounds SAP in it. This could be attributed to my silly notion that my wife conceived only (??) soon after I becoming a full time SAP Consultant. As a result, I have SAPna and SAPthagiri dangling before my eyes.

In the meantime, my Father-in-Law's Tamil influence and my recently grown interest for Tamil and our Race, had started prickling under my arms and telling me to do something about it. By the time, my cute boy was out in the beautiful world, I had fully decided to include Tamil Names in my list for final Selection or rather discussion with my wife.

For further filtration, Astrologer Ganamoorthy, brought from his rectangles that the name should start with Sa, Ka, Kaa, Ku, Koo. It looked like he has reason to suggest and simplify our work as well.

The below are the Names we analyzed, called, wrote, shouted, pampered and at last filtered. When I said called, we were more concernedly thinking about how would it be called by a Chinese tongue (teacher, classmate, friend, colleague, girlfriend). In fact, we gave more importance to that. Sometimes, from a crowd you may not emerge as much as yourself, when a Chinese/Malay calls your name.

The names that reached the final test tube are

1. Kavin (suggested by Priya)
2. Saravanan (suggested by Father, it reached here only for his satisfaction)
3. Tholkaapiyan (suggested by Ravi)
4. Sanjeev (suggested by Sasi)
5. Kalaaban, Sarvesh, Kavin, Kabilan, Sangeethan, Sangeeth, Aakash (suggested by me and Rathai)
6. Rohit, Goutham, Roshan, Kaushik (yea you are right, by my mother)
7. Gunalan, Satheesh (suggested by Dorothy)

Then finally we settled for Kavin, Sangeethan, Kalaaban. I had the last minute doubt that Kavin is not a Tamil Name. But later found it is very much, meaning Beauty. We wanted to add little bit of thoughfulness and majesty in the name. After looking at the revolving fan and lighted lamps for a while I found the suffix varman. Varmans are used by Pallavas. NandiVarman, Narasimhavarman, Mahendravarman are the common names in thier dynasty. They never found themselves short of names by adding numerals behind the names.

That's how, eventually, we found Kavi Varman.
But however, we intend to call him with our family pet names like dookkan, Pattaanu, Pattuthanu, vairakundha, ballai, thoothai etc.,

"For any one, his/her name is the sweetest sound in any Language"
