There is this cute Boy in Singapore whose parents (one of them is my colleague) wanted to celebrate his first birthday in foreign Land and thereby, hosted a Party.

Its really nice to know Indians who have been living in a foreign land only for few months and only have lesser friends, find occasions to host parties or in most of the cases at least a simple gathering.

When my colleague, the birthday boy’s mother, invited me from my behind when she entered the office room after Lunch session (?), I decided that I should go. She added saying that I should come with my Family. For recently married guys, someone addressing them, as a family will bring some pleasure and a feeling of fulfilled responsibility by making them realize that they are into a family nucleus.

I felt the same and decided to take my wife along, also to make my colleague a little bit happier.

We always have the (good or bad) habit of reaching a particular place at a pre-scheduled time. If this is a good habit, it will work against you when you visit a group of Indians. Since we were told that the party will be at 7, we thought the Cake Event will be at least 8pm. Even though we reached Little India about 7pm, we were hanging around for sometime until we reach the hall at 7.30pm. As I guessed, we were the first person to reach. Should appreciate the couple for having managed their time to decorate the hall.

Sometimes, we need to think beyond customs and sentiments. They could have held this event (of so much importance for the parents) during the succeeding/preceding weekend. Usually in Singapore families, every gatherings or an event that requires gathering of people will be pushed towards Weekend. So that you can expect to see more attendees in a relaxed manner. Especially those expect a liquor bash. After putting our heart and soul in preparing for hosting the party, we would not feel good if people do not turn up or even not bothered to call and say that they are not able to attend.

The cake was cut at Nine past ten minutes. Few, to be hardly heard by they themselves, sang birthday song.

Through this blog, I would request all our Indian Friends to host anything during weekend. So that we will have our weekend fun-filled and refreshing and start our week again. Also inform the attendees about the liquor serving. And also another request, Please don’t just attend these kind of functions hosted by your friends, but please please participate. Don’t expect someone to pull you for Photo snaps and beg you to dine and wine. Indulgence is everything.

I think I was the first one to help myself with the cake and also make it to the dining section. The food was excellent esp. the Fish fingers with its crumpy and crispy layer, thick brinjal curry, drumstick sambar.

We cornered to a table nearby the food session. Then I came to know through Bharat that they have beer to be served. ஆஹா! இத்த முதல்லே சொல்ல வேண்டியது தானே! But anyway I had three full mugs of beer which well co-operated with food spread. I never had any inhibitions when it comes to Food, Wine and Women. Thanks for Harika and Bharath.

I overheard joseph cracking jokes on the other end with fellow drinkers (some are just smellers).

After couple of servings, my obsession pleading me to eat more. But my health conscious conscience pressing my foot against the floor. My obsession gave up at last.

Finally we parted from the hall after saying bye to all and took a cab from Bukit Timah Road towards sweet home, where our Son is waiting for us.

One thing I forgot… Yes I forgot to say Bye! to Captain Kirubagaran and his son “Served” Sundar. Hope he will not mind!
